School Resource Officers

The Griffin Police Department’s School Resource Officers (SROs) program is staffed by three dedicated officers who serve as a vital link between the police department, local schools, and the community. These officers work full-time within Griffin’s schools to ensure a safe learning environment, build positive relationships with students and staff, and provide immediate response to safety concerns. In addition to campus security, the SROs offer educational programs, mentorship, and guidance, helping to foster trust, prevent juvenile crime, and promote responsible decision-making among students. Through their daily presence and proactive engagement, Griffin’s School Resource Officers play an essential role in supporting the safety and success of the city’s youth.

SWAT Team

The Griffin Police Department SWAT team adheres to Tier 2 standards established by the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA). They conduct search warrants for high-risk cases and in support of the Criminal Investigations Division, ensuring operations are carried out safely, lawfully and professionally. Personnel maintain a high level of readiness through ongoing training, averaging 16 hours per month, or 192 hours annually. In critical incidents, the department follows the NTOA’s long-standing “Priority of Life” (POL) principle, which guides decision-making when lives are at risk by prioritizing protection in the following order: 1) hostages, 2) innocent civilians, 3) law enforcement personnel, and 4) suspects. Through these standards and practices, the Griffin Police Department remains committed to ethical policing, officer preparedness, and the safety and well-being of the community.
