Office of Professional Standards

The Griffin Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards (OPS), led by Captain Kaylen Krueger Hayes, manages the department’s essential administrative and support functions that ensure effective, accountable, and professional operations. OPS is responsible for hiring and recruiting, coordinating training for both new and current personnel, and overseeing the department’s budget and fleet management. The division also supervises Records and Warrants services, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with legal standards. In addition, OPS directs the Community Outreach Program (COP Unit), which strengthens relationships between the department and the community through engagement, education, and public safety initiatives. The OPS Division also oversees the department’s state and CALEA accreditation processes, maintaining compliance with national and state-level professional policing standards. Together, these responsibilities make OPS a vital component in supporting the mission, efficiency, and professionalism of the Griffin Police Department.

Community Outreach Unit

The Griffin Police Department’s Community Outreach Unit plays a vital role in building and maintaining positive relationships between the department and the community. The unit participates in planning, coordinating, and sustaining community relations programs and crime prevention partnerships while collaborating with all divisions to implement outreach activities that support the department’s mission and goals, allowing officers opportunities to volunteer. The unit assists with parade events, community event permits, and road closures, and serves as a liaison with existing community organizations while establishing connections with new groups as needed. Additionally, the unit develops problem-oriented and community policing strategies to address emerging concerns, supports city-led events organized by the Communications and Public Relations Coordinator, and manages the daily operations of the Anne Street Precinct Mentor Program, including scheduling in- and out-of-school activities. The Community Outreach Unit ensures compliance with departmental procedures, advises superiors on technical and administrative matters, monitors changes in local, state, and federal laws, assists other departments or agencies when necessary, and participates in required training, all while performing related duties that promote public safety and strengthen community trust.
