St. George's Episcopal Church

132 North Tenth Street, Griffin

The Episcopal Church was one of the six churches endowed with a one-acre lot when General Griffin established the city of Griffin. As early as 1846, Episcopal priests were serving as missionaries to the small group of Episcopalians in the area.

The parish actually dates back to 1848 when the Right Reverend Stephen Elliott, first Bishop of the Diocese of Georgia, since divided into the diocese of Atlanta (of which St. George's is member today) and Georgia, sent the Reverend J. H. George to Griffin.
