CITIZEN COMMENTS

 
         
At this time, the Chairperson opens the floor to comments from the audience. Comments should relate to a specific agenda item, not listed on the agenda for a Public Hearing, or to a concern within the jurisdiction of the City. Commission meetings serve the purpose of conducting city business and are not a forum for the unlimited expression of opinion. The Chairperson reserves the right to limit comments to matters germane to city business and may refer speakers to the City Manager or other staff for resolution.
 
         
 
         

PUBLIC HEARINGS

 
         
Public Hearings are conducted to allow public comment on specific advertised issues such as rezoning, ordinances, policy development, operating budgets and other legislative actions to be considered by the City Commission.
 
         
  1.

Receive comments regarding a request for a variance for the encroachment of more than three-feet of the front and side setback for an addition of a deck, for property located at 503 E. Broadway Street. Planning and Development Director Taurus Freeman will address.  No action required

  2. Consider approval of Minutes of the Regular Scheduled Meeting on August 12, 2014.   Approved

The Regular Agenda includes items on which the Commission will individually consider and possibly take action.
 
         
  3. Consider a request for a variance for the encroachment of more than three-feet of the front and side setbacks for an addition of a deck, for property located at 503 E. Broadway Street. Planning and Development Director Taurus Freeman will address.  Approved  
  4. Consider a request from "Making Griffin Spalding Better Together" for support.  The Board expressed unanimous support for the organization.  
  5. Consider approval to purchase two (2) Ford F-150 4X4 super cab pick-up trucks for the Technical Services Division of the Electric Department in the state contracted amount of $24,399 each from Speedway Ford; declare unit # 763 and # 3895 as surplus and sell on GovDeals.com.   Electric Director Bill Bosch will address.  Approved  
  6. Consider approval of an Authorization Agreement naming MEAG Power as the City's agent to nominate and acquire any combination of resources to optimize the City's Supplemental Power Supply Requirements.   Director of Electric Bill Bosch will address.  Approved  
  7. Consider approval of bid and work contract to Crawford Grading and Pipeline, Inc., for the construction of Shoal Creek Stormwater Detention and Mitigation Pond in the amount of $322,882.23 for the Stormwater Department.  Director of Public Works & Utilities Dr. Brant D. Keller will address.   Approved  
  8.

Consider the purchase and installation of a Bandalog Litter Trap from Storm Water Systems, Inc. for the Shoal Creek Regional Detention and Mitigation Pond in the amount of $110,615.00 for the Stormwater Department.   Director of Public Works & Utilities Dr. Brant D. Keller will address.  Approved

 

 
  9. Consider an Intergovernmental Transportation Funding Agreement between the City of Griffin and Spalding County to fund a joint comprehensive transportation plan update and amend the budget accordingly. G/S Transportation Planner Anthony Dukes will address.   Approved  
  10.

Appoint one (1) citizen member to Griffin - Spalding Airport Authority, Post No. 6 to expire on December 31, 2017.  The position was recently vacated.

Louis Thacker was appointed.

 
  11.

Appoint one member to the Environmental Council to fill a recent vacancy, expiring on December 31, 2014.  The vacant position is due to a resignation.

Jay Averett was appointed.

 
         
 
         

CITY MANAGER'S REPORT

 
         
The City Manager will update the Commission on pending items, upcoming workshops, meetings, conferences and other pertinent issues.
 
         
 
         

CITY COMMISSIONER COMMENTS

 
         
Commissioners will provide updates regarding issues of interest from their respective districts and/or committee reports.
