PRESENTATIONS / DELEGATIONS 

1. Recognize Martin Sanz of the Griffin-Spalding Airport as the February 

2012 “Strongest Link” Award recipient.   Airport Manager Robert Mohl 

will address.

2. Attorney Michele Stumpe will make a presentation regarding Responsible 

Alcohol Sales and Service (RASS). 

3. Review Financials for January 2012.  Director of Administrative Services 

Markus Schwab will address. 

CITIZEN COMMENTS 

At this time, the Chairperson opens the floor to comments from the audience.  

Comments should relate to a specific agenda item, not listed on the agenda for a Public 

Hearing, or to a concern within the jurisdiction of the City.  Commission meetings 

serve the purpose of conducting city business and are not a forum for the unlimited 

expression of opinion.  The Chairperson reserves the right to limit comments to matters 

germane to city business and may refer speakers to the City Manager or other staff for 

resolution. 

PUBLIC HEARINGS 

Public Hearings are conducted to allow public comment on specific advertised issues 

such as rezoning, ordinances, policy development, operating budgets and other 

legislative actions to be considered by the City Commission.

4. Receive comments regarding a request for a variance from Section 70.31.2 

Building Signs of the City of Griffin Sign Ordinance, to permit 455 square feet of 

building signs in excess of the 15% and 220 square feet provision for property 

located at 1465 Highway 16 West.   Director of Planning and Development 

Services Frederick Gardiner will address.

CONSENT AGENDA 

5. Consider approval of Minutes of the Commission Goals Workshop on 

February 28, 2012 and Minutes of the Regular Scheduled Meeting on 

February 28, 2012.  

6. Consider Second and Final Reading (with corrections) of an Ordinance 

adopting the new Unified Development Code (UDC). 

REGULAR AGENDA 

The Regular Agenda includes items on which the Commission will individually 

consider and possibly take action. 

7. Consider a request for a variance from Section 70.31.2 Building Signs of 

the City of Griffin Sign Ordinance, to permit 455 square feet of building 

signs in excess of the 15% and 220 square feet provision for property 

located at 1465 Highway 16 West.  Director of Planning and Development 

Services Frederick Gardiner will address. 

8. Consider an Agreement between the City of Griffin and Sky Design to 

conduct the Griffin Branding Program.  Director of Planning and 

Development Services Frederick Gardiner will address.  

9. Consider a Resolution closing Mt. Zion Road between its intersection with 

W. Poplar Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. By Pass (U.S. 19 & 41/S.R. 

3) in order to provide for development of the new Kroger project.   City 

Attorney Drew Whalen will address.   

10. Consider a contract with Champion Turf Farms in the amount of 

$49,500.00 for the replacement of turf for the City Municipal Golf Course.  

Director of Public Works and Utilities Dr. Brant Keller will address. 

11. Consider approval to award bid to Fireline, Inc. for an E-One 78-foot 

Aerial Ladder Truck in the amount of $642,724.00 for the Griffin Fire 

Department.  Chief Tommy Jones will address. 

12. Consider a Resolution to amend the City of Griffin’s Storm Water Fiscal 

Year 2011-2012 Operating Budget for donations of $2,800.00 from

vendors who sponsored Annual Erosion & Sedimentation Day.  Director 

of Administrative Services Markus Schwab will address. 

13. Consider post approval of Commissioner Beyah’s attendance at the 

National Youth-at-Risk Conference in Savannah, Georgia, March 4-March 

7, 2012.    

CITY MANAGER’S REPORT 

The City Manager will update the Commission on pending items, upcoming 

workshops, meetings, conferences and other pertinent issues. 

CITY COMMISSIONER COMMENTS 

Commissioners will provide updates regarding issues of interest from their respective 

districts and/or committee reports.
