In November, the Griffin PD lost one of their canines to a malicious criminal act. K9 Jimi was stolen from Cpl. Chad Moxon’s residence. Jimi was found two days later having succumbed to a gunshot wound to his abdomen. The investigation is still open as of January 7, 2010.
The Griffin Police Department Canine Unit continues to serve the community despite the criminal act against Jimi. Ptl. Trey Williams has a German Shepherd named Deuce, Ptl. Jonathan McGehee has a Yellow Lab named Duke, Ptl. Jonathan Hoffman has a German Shepherd named Deny, and Cpl. Chad Moxon has recently started training with Freddy, the late Jimi’s successor. The officers and their dogs train together for illegal drug detection during traffic stops. The dogs and their handlers are used during roadside checks, criminal apprehension, victim searches, and finding lost children. These officers and their dogs are an asset to the citizens of Griffin through their aggressive drug intervention. Sgt. Jeremy Bennett is the K9 Supervisor.
