Responsibilities

Tax and Licensing collects all delinquent taxes real and personal from the year 1998 and back for properties located inside the City of Griffin.

In addition, this Division is also responsible for:

  • Event And Catering Permits
  • Processing And Issuing Alcohol Beverage Licenses
  • Collecting All Excise Tax And Franchise Fees
  • Handling The Miscellaneous Billing
  • Receiving Payments For The Entire City

The billing and collection of occupational taxes is handled here, as well as the registration of businesses located inside the City.

Attention: The Public Benefit Affidavit must be signed and notarized when submitting to the Tax and License Department with all applications listed on this webpage.

Important Facts

  • Occupational tax certificates are non-transferable. Alcohol beverage licenses are non-transferable.
  • All new businesses applying for an occupational tax certificate will be subject to a mandatory fire safety inspection and zoning ordinance approval.
  • Any business that sells alcohol (beer, wine, and/or liquor) for retail, wholesale or on-premise consumption is required to obtain an alcohol license. This registration requires an investigation and annual renewal.
  • Outdoor events and fundraisers require an amplification permit application submitted ten (10) days prior to event.
  • Anyone renting Raymond Head Park or City Park for an event should reserve the date of the event with Public Works Department and then submit the amplification permit for processing. Contact Public Works at 770-229-6603 between 8:00am - 4:00pm
  • Each person licensed under title 43 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated by the Examining Boards of Secretary of State's Office shall provide evidence of proper and current state licensure at the time of registering the business in accordance with section 26-35.
  • All new businesses applying for an occupational tax certificate will be subject to a mandatory fire safety inspection and zoning ordinance approval.
  • All convenience stores, grocery stores, restaurant, bakeries, and deli’s will be subject to a health inspection and fats, oils and grease inspection before opening a business and a fire safety inspection.
  • Any business that sells alcohol (beer, wine, and/or liquor) for retail, wholesale or on-premise consumption is required to obtain an alcohol license. This registration requires an investigation and annual renewal.
  • Occupational tax certificate registrations shall be renewed annually, between January 1 and April 1 for the current year.
